Over the years, I have worked with and met some of the greatest musicians that exist on the planet. Most are seasoned pros, musical directors, others are session players, (guns for hire), sidemen, classically trained soloist, hobbyists. Also there is the I wanna be the next new star that you listen to on the radio and watch my reality show on MTV, and that’s ok, gotta dream big. “I wanna be”
Because I reside in Los Angele’s, California, I’ve witness the new talent that arrives into town every year to “make it” big in the music industry with the hopes of making their dreams come true and being the next go to musician or singer.
Many talented musicians arrive at LAX without a clue about the realities, or the real work, involved that goes into making dreams come true on the road to rich and famous.
In addition to the day to day living adjustments that you have to make after moving to LA and trying to get set up to start that new musical journey in a full blown, high end big city. A journey in a highly competitive environment, not only in LA but from New York to Nashville.
In the mist of your desire to reach your dreams, It’s important that you come to understand that this is the Music Business with it’s own rules, fellowships and gatekeepers.
The realities of this business is what so many musicians never quite think about and don’t really understand when they arrive from another country, city, town or state. Usually by the time they finally arrive in Los Angele’s, to make it, they come with only the stars in their eyes. Most up and coming talent learn some of the realities the hard way, and sometimes the lessons are never learned at all.
I always share these words of advice along to artist, “you can’t get pass the process.” Believe me when I say to you that everything about “getting there” is a process.
As with any business, there is so much to learn and so may things to grasp. With all the new musicians and singers who come to this town to make it, this is one of the reasons MyLena Entertainment decided to ask some friends who are master musicians and legendary talent(s) to join us and come to the table to share some of their personal experiences and “words of wisdom” about the “Realities of The Music Business”.
Over the next few weeks I will be introducing you to the “The Legendary Series”
I will provide an introduction of highlights about the program, the talent and some history on some of the legendary talented guest who will be involved.
